A skilled and experienced orthodontist is not just a ‘tooth straighter’. In fact, Dr. Sebastian’s specialty is Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. As such, we are able to treat crooked teeth along with underlying jaw deformities and poor bites. While many patients come to see us for crowding, we find that frequently crowding is merely a result of poor jaw growth, which in turn can also impact a patient’s airway and their ability to breath well.
Orthodontics is therefore more than just straight teeth—proper alignment of teeth and jaws of course creates a confident smile and a good bite, but it can also prevent excessive tooth wear, fractures, gum recession, and airway problems setting the foundation for long-term dental and general physical health.
While treatment is possible at any age, available treatment options change with age and timing is critical for success. Early evaluations—recommended by age 7—help us determine the ideal time to start treatment, whether that means beginning with expansion as early as age 4 or waiting until later in adolescence. This proactive approach allows us to plan personalized treatments that yield the best results in the least amount of time and usually allow us to avoid unpleasant interventions such as pulling permanent teeth or jaw surgeries.
